Reasons Why You Can Stay on Budget When Dining Out in Amsterdam
The way we approach vacation planning goes something like we look for cheap flights. We research the goal and get an idea of the main attractions we’d like to see. These are great ideas. But isn’t there something missing? What are we planning to do, where to eat? No trip, no matter how big, will be a success without a stop. Find out more on Yays post and learn some helpful tips when you travel to Amsterdam.
You Get Complimentary Breakfast
Sometimes you can get so focused on exploring a destination that you miss the opportunity to grab some inexpensive refreshments at your accommodation. Here are just a few of them. Breakfast is often called “the best meal of the day.” A good breakfast can set you up for the day. Many times we have enjoyed a great breakfast buffet with plenty of food and no need for lunch. Does your hotel offer complimentary breakfast? Hilton is one of the brands that provide a complimentary breakfast to members of its loyalty program (Hilton Honors) who have Gold or Diamond status.
Hilton Amsterdam offered a free night’s stay thanks to a credit card. It was too good to pass up the opportunity for a complimentary breakfast in the restaurant. We were impressed with the variety of breakfast options, including hot drinks, juices and fruits, yogurt, cold savory options, and baked goods. The offerings were very well presented, with some local touches such as large wooden shoes in the bakery section and miniature Dutch houses in the cold area. We were also served a pancake with a flame as part of our wedding day reservation.
You Get Many Food Options
The Holiday Inn Express is another hotel that offers a full breakfast as part of the room rate. You booked the Holiday Inn Express City Hall on points. The breakfast was not as good as the Hilton, and there were no hot savory options. However, it did offer enough juice, hot drinks, and tasty cold options, as well as cereal, bread, fruit, yogurt, and other snacks to keep us going throughout the day. It’s worth asking how much breakfast costs at the hotel. You may not need to buy another meal if the price is right and the buffet is delicious. Breakfast in a hotel is usually cheaper than breakfast or lunch in Amsterdam.
As a goodwill gesture, ask for a complimentary breakfast if there are problems with the hotel. It has worked for us several times.
Some hotels have executive lounges from brands like Hilton and InterContinental Hotel Group. These lounges are usually complimentary for high-end rooms. Always check to see if there is an option for a free upgrade. In general, you’re in a better position the higher you go up in loyalty rewards programs. There are many executive lounge options. Some offer hot and cold drinks and some snacks. Some offer a selection of food and beverages throughout the day, with alcoholic beverages available during a specific time slot.
